Ben Gavin

I've been developing software and tinkering with technology since the days of the TI-94A and audio tape storage. These days I focus primarily on Microsoft technologies for my day to day work, and am dabbling in IoT with Arduino, Raspberry Pi and Particle devices. I love most things technology related, and while there's always lots to learn, that's what keeps things interesting :). Ben Gavin

That Robotics / IoT Lab That Conference 2016, 2017 Come on down to 2 days of fun with That Robotics / IoT Lab! Projects include:
  • VexIQ Mini-Kits (Racer, Cycle, Helicopter, Duck Explorer and Plane)
  • VexIQ Sensor Lab (utilizing Robot-C Graphical / Classic)
  • Drivable / Programmable VexIQ Omni-Vehicle
  • That Pi Hunt (utilizing Raspberry Pi / Bluetooth Beacons)
  • Arduino Bot
  • ESP8266 Sensor Projects (via Feather Huzzah and Sparkfun ThingDev)
That Robotics Lab That Conference 2015 Come on down for 2 Days of That Robotics Lab and have some fun with robots! We'll have pre-built robots that can be driven around our race and obstacle course, kits with instructions to build simple mechanisms and simple robots and laptops with RobotC / Robot Virtual Worlds loaded up and ready to go. Test your programming prowess by navigating the Ruins of Atlantis, Palm Island or any of the other Robot Virtual Worlds.
  • VexIQ Kits and Instructions will be available on first-come, first-served basis, come back later if your chosen project is not available!
  • Robotics Kits and software are available for use during the lab, but all robotics parts and components must be left in the lab room when your project is complete
  • Photo station where you can take your photo with your robot / creation!
  • RobotC and Robot Virtual Worlds [with the Summer of Learning license, valid through Sept. 1st] will be available to load on personal laptops if desired
Come on down and have some fun, projects are expected to take anywhere from 0 - 60 minutes to complete on average.
Robotics Camp That Conference 2014 This 3-Day family track session / open space is an introduction to the Vex IQ Robotics system, and will cover the basics of the system. We'll outline the tools available and allow you to spend hands-on time with some Vex IQ Robots. After the initial overview / demo, we will be presenting the goals of the camp and assigning campers to teams. Teams will work throughout the conference to build and program a Vex IQ robot to perform specific tasks to earn badges along their path to robotics mastery. Expanding your Backpack with Windows Azure Storage That Conference 2013, MadDotNet Is your development toolset ready for the cloud? Windows Azure provides a solid set of storage technologies that, when used properly, can open the door for new experiences within your applications. In this session, we'll walk through a series of sample usage scenarios that leverage Blobs, Tables and Queues to enhance the user experience for a sample Windows 8 store application. We'll talk about how you can structure your data to take best advantage of the storage types that Windows Azure provides, and how to avoid some common pitfalls that can prevent Windows Azure from helping you deliver on your reliability and scalability goals. By the end of the session, you should have some concrete ideas on how you can leverage Windows Azure storage technologies to make your applications and services great. Slide Deck TPLemmings: Fun with the Task Parallel Library Fox Valley Day of .NET Learn about the Task Parallel Library [TPL] and TPL Dataflow by recreating a version of the famous 'Lemmings'.
